Australian Chief Justice Will Be Jurist In Residence At John Marshall

The John Marshall Law School is hosting Australia’s High Court Chief Justice, Robert Shenton French, as its 2010 Jurist in Residence during the week of Jan. 25.

His visit will include a lecture delivered on Tuesday, Jan. 26, visits with students and faculty, a discussion with US federal court judges, and a reception in his honor co-hosted with the Chicago Bar Association.

French has been chief justice of the High Court of Australia since September 2008. At the time of his appointment he was a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, where he had served since November 1986.

He will deliver the lecture, “Protecting Human Rights Without a Bill of Rights” at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Room 503.

The lecture is open to the public and lunch will be served. Reservations are being accepted through Jan. 12 at events@jmls.edu.
